SEOUL, South Korea Core Logic, one of South Korea's leading mobile multimedia SoC companies, said it has licensed Java Platform, Micro Edition (ME) technology from Sun Microsystems to help accelerate the expansion of Java technology in the mobile market.
Under the licensing agreement, Sun will help Core Logic, also the Multimedia Application Processor (MAP) vendor in the global market, to adopt Sun's Java ME technology on its MAP and upcoming products to provide various multimedia features optimized to mobile devices including mobile handsets, DMB devices, PMPs and MP3 players.
"This integration will result in great benefits for device manufacturers," Core Logic said in a statement.
Both companies will be able to provide the Java platform integrated with the chip, helping device manufacturers reduce costs for operating systems. In addition, customers will be able to speed up time-to-market as the offering will help minimize the development process for ensuring the compatibility of existing applications, according to Core Logic.
Since its establishment in 1998, Core Logic has developed core SoC solutions for mobile phones. Core Logic's major products include MAP, CAP (Camera Application Processor) and ISP (Image Signal Processor).
