SAN JOSE, Calif. Japanese DRAM supplier Elpida Memory Inc. posted a profit of 6.6 billion yen ($57.6 million) for its first fiscal quarter, compared to a net of 1.5 billion yen ($13.1 million) in the previous period and a loss of 3.3 billion yen ($28.8 million) in the like period a year ago.
Sales were 92.1 billion yen ($803.1 million) in the period, up 91.7 percent from a year ago. The company posted sales of 77 billion yen ($671.5 million) in the previous period.
Bit growth was up 23 percent quarter-over-quarter, but average selling prices fell 3 percent. The company attributed the gains to the surge in the DRAM market.
