COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Real-Time Innovations Inc. has teamed with Concurrent Computer Corp. to meld RTI's middleware with Concurrent's RedHawk Linux for the U.S. Navy's Aegis Open Architecture program.
The Navy has moved to a commercial off-the-shelf program for weapons systems on Aegis cruisers and destroyers, which are a key element of U.S. theater missile defense programs.
The Aegis program's open-architecture philosophy is expected to allow software and hardware elements to be upgraded more easily, using open interfaces between subsystems. RedHawk, which is compatible with Red Hat Linux, is designed for high-speed interprocess communications, high I/O and fast response to external events.
RTI's Data Distribution Service middleware uses a publish-subscribe, application-layer model similar to other XML environments. The RTI middleware complies with the Object Management Group's Data Distribution Service for Real-Time Systems standard, the partners said.
