MANHASSET, N.Y. Renesas Technology Corp. has announced plans to develop a new facility at the Kumamoto plant of Renesas Kyushu Semiconductor Corp., a wholly-owned back-end process manufacturing subsidiary in Kyushu, Japan.
Renesas expects the new building, slated for completion by December, to increase production capacity and improve efficiency. It will enable the company to consolidate the operations of Renesas Kyushu Semiconductor's Fukuoka plant at the new facility. The Kumamoto plant performs assembly and testing for microcontrollers, mixed-signal devices, and discrete devices.
Renesas is currently pursuing a two-pronged strategy of large-scale offshore back-end process lines as part of its plans to improve cost competitiveness and strengthen the domestic production bases to meet tight delivery
schedules for high-performance products.
