SAN FRANCISCO South Korean fabless chip vendor Pixelplus Co. Ltd. said Wednesday (Jan. 3) it obtained a favorable ruling from the Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), granting the company's request to "effectively cancel and invalidate" a disputed contact hole process patent claimed by South Korean rival MagnaChip Semiconductor Ltd.
Pixelplus (Seoul, South Korea) said the KIPO denied to invalidate a disputed color filter patent held by MagnaChip. Pixelplus said it plans to file an appeal with the patent court on this issue.
Pixelplus said it received "completely favorable and commendatory rulings" from the KIPO on three of the four patents it asked the KIPO to invalidate. In September 2006, Pixelplus said the KIPO granted the company's request to effectively cancel and invalidate disputed photo diode and sensor patents claimed by MagnaChip.
The two companies are also involved in a separate litigation before the Seoul District Court.
