COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ECI Telecom Ltd. will describe 40-Gbit/second transmission out to 1,000 kilometers over a reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer in an upcoming conference paper. The paper will be presented at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference to be held at the end of March.
While component research groups like Bell Labs have claimed longer distances for 100-Gbit transmission, those demonstrations involved devices and fiber, rather than full optical transport systems.
The company has used its 10-degree XDM RoadM with 50-GHz channel spacing to achieve transmission speeds of 43 Gbits/s, which provides overhead for forward error correction. The RoadM design is based on a wavelength-selectable switch that offers quality-of-service prioritization for different traffic types.
