ORLANDO, Fla. Sonus Networks Inc. will acquire Zynetix Ltd. for $13 million in cash and stock, giving the soft-switching specialist a new software base in GSM infrastructure products.
Sonus (Westford, Mass.), which has been moving its OEM and carrier customers from first-generation softswitch architectures over to IP multimedia subsystems, will use U.K.-based Zynetix's software to develop all-IP mobile switching systems.
Zynetix has been particularly active in building femtocellular basestation products for the edge of public networks. Andy Odgers, a managing director of Zynetix, will become a vice president and chief technology officer for Sonus' wireless technology group.
