MANHASSET, NY Embedded-processor guru Tom Starnes has joined Objective Analysis , a semiconductor market research firm, as director of processors.
"Objective Analysis is flattered to have Tom Starnes join us," said Jim Handy, co-founder of the Austin, Texas, company. "Starnes is arguably the best-known embedded-processor analyst in the industry. Through Tom's hard-hitting insights, many key players in this industry have found their focus and refined their product strategies."
Starnes spent 12 years as the processor analyst at Gartner Dataquest, and prior to that worked as a technical marketing manager in Motorola's microprocessor group for 15 years. Starnes helped establish Motorola's 68000 architecture as the de facto standard embedded processor just when embedded systems were evolving to digital control.
He has served on the advisory board of the Embedded Systems Conferences. Starnes has a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas.
Handy himself is a 30-year electronics industry veteran (with a BS from Georgia Tech), who spent 14 years as analyst for Gartner Dataquest and Semico Research. Objective Analysis' third analyst is Dave Cavanaugh, director of manufacturing, who has 20 years of technology management experience. Cavanaugh holds a BSME from the University of Arizona and an MBA from Arizona State University.
Objective Analysis is set to specialize in semiconductor market research from production through marketing and end-equipment demand.
