SAN JOSE, Calif. FPGA supplier Xilinx Inc. has announced the formation of a joint lab at Singapore's Republic Polytechnic.
Republic Polytechnic is said to be the fifth and currently the newest post-secondary educational institution in Singapore.
It is also Xilinx' first lab in Southeast Asia. Donations in silicon and electronic design automation software from the FPGA giant will enable professors and students to be trained in embedded system design and development for a variety of end applications, according to Xilinx.
Xilinx has also expanded its Asia-Pacific regional headquarters in Singapore. Located in the Changi Business Park, the new 20,000 square meter Xilinx Asia Pacific (XAP) headquarters can house up to 500 employees. It provides four times the capacity of its previous on-site manufacturing facility and three times the in-house process development resources.
At an event, Xilinx Chairman, CEO and President Wim Roelandts also disclosed plans for increased investment in local research and development in Singapore.
