SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Taiwan's Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. (ASE), the world's largest provider of IC packaging and testing services, reported net revenues of NT$24.7 billion ($811.3 million) for the first quarter of 2008, up 17 percent year-over-year and down 15 percent sequentially.
Net income for the quarter totaled NT$2.3 billion ($75.6 million), up from NT$1.7 billion ($55.8 million) a year ago and down from NT$3.7 billion ($121.5 million)sequentially.
Net revenues contribution from IC-packaging operations, testing operations, and substrates sold to third parties each represented approximately 78 percent, 20 percent, and 2 percent, respectively, of total net revenues for the quarter.
Net revenues generated from IC packaging operations were up 18 percent year-over-year and down 15 percent sequentially. ''On a sequential basis, the decrease in packaging net revenue was primarily due to a decrease in sales volume,'' according to ASE (Taipei).
Net revenues generated from testing operations were up by 13 percent year-over-year and down by 14 percent sequentially.
