SAN FRANCISCOIntel Corp. Tuesday (July 21) announced it would eliminate 294 jobs in its Ireland fab operations and related service groups due to reduced demand for older 200-mm products manufactured there.
The layoff will not impact any of the 300-mm jobs in Intel's Fab 24 in Leixlip, County Kildare, Intel said. The company also operates two 200-mm fabs in that location.
Intel said it would engage in consultation with employees over the next number of weeks to determine which employs will be let go. The affected employees will be offered the same severance package that was offered to employees who participated in a voluntary reduction of force earlier this year, Intel said.
Intel said it currently has about 4,500 employees at the Leixlip site working in 200-mm and 300-mm manufacturing.
In a statement, Intel said it remains "strongly committed to its operations in Ireland."
