The round-table panel I attended, organized by Cadence, was an interesting and open discussion. It repeated some of the conventional wisdom; that VCs don't like fabless chip companies any more, but also revealed the interests of the startups' upstream suppliers; the EDA vendors and the foundries. So is a greater role for EDA vendors and foundries, acting as advisors to the VCs and as the gatekeepers for which startups go forward, a good thing or a bad thing?
