a disagree with the above comment. even if the solar flight experiment dsnt lead to a practically viable solar flight solutions no one can deny the strong significance of a carbon neutral flight actually taking off and as in many cases the tools and technologies involved to achieve this will most likely lead to many breakthrough in other disciplines. look at CERN-LHC, its hardly got anything to do with developing any practical solutions for life.. but the spin-offs in the technology and tools are already helping medical and manufacturing industry. It is short sighted for an engineer to throw out any advancement in science&research just cause it dsnt have any immediate practical application.

What drivel, " ... ushering in the era of fuel-less, carbon-neutral air travel." Breathless, over-hype about a stunt (or academic exercise if you will) that by simple laws of physics and the natural world will NEVER be practical. I'd much rather have read something about the engineering work and design to overcome obstacles, etc.
