SAN FRANCISCOLeading semiconductor foundry Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. posted a net income of NT$33.66 billion ($1.1 billion) on revenue of NT$92.19 billion ($2.9 billion), the company said Monday (April 26).
Year-over-year, first quarter revenue increased 133.4 percent, while net income increased by more than 2,000 percent, TSMC (Hsinchu, Taiwan) said. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2009, first quarter 2010 results represent a slights increase in revenue and a 3.1 percent increase in net income, TSMC said.
TSMC saw an increase in first quarter wafer shipments compared with the previous quarter, the company said, contrary to its normal seasonal pattern. Wafer sales from consumer and communication related applications grew while wafer sales from computer related applications declined slightly, the company said.
Advanced process technologies (0.13-micron and below) accounted for 71 percent of wafer revenues. 90-nanometer process technology accounted for 17 percent of wafer revenues, 65-nm accounte for 27 percent and 40-nm revenue jumped to 14 percent of total wafer sales, TSMC said.
