NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Mindspeed Technologies Inc.--a spin-off of Conexant Systems, Inc.--here today announced the first in a family of switch-fabric chips.
Mindspeed's iScale switch-fabric is a two-chip solution, which includes the CX27301 Queue Manager and the CX27302 Crossbar Switch. The chip set uses a single-stage architecture that enables OEMs to develop high-speed ATM systems, digital cross-connect products, routers, and switches.
The iScale enables OEMs to develop products with a total bandwidth from 40- to 320-gigabits-per-second. The chip set supports 4 OC-192 ports (or 16 OC-48 ports) to 32 OC-192 ports (or 128 OC-48 ports).
The protocol-agnostic iScale solution leverages Mindspeed's SkyRail transceiver technology, which provide 3.125-gigabits-per-second of bandwidth, said Raouf Halim, CEO of the Newport Beach, Calif.-based company.
The iScale solution decreases component- and pin-count while improving power efficiency. It is fully fault-tolerant, supporting up to eight independent switching domains and is capable of tolerating single errors without losing or reordering cells.
iScale will sample in June, with production slated for the fourth quarter of 2001. The CX27301 comes in a 680-pin CDBGA, while the CX27302 is offered in a 680-pin plastic CDBGA.
OEM pricing in volumes of 1,000 is $599 for the CX27301 and $599 for the CX27302.
