SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Trident Microsystems Inc. has filed a lawsuit here in California court, accusing Via Technologies Inc. and the S3 Graphics joint venture in Taiwan of conspiring with a former engineering manager to misappropriate trade secrets by hiring employees.
Trident on late Friday announced the suit, which alleges that Via and its joint venture with Sonicblue Inc. (formerly S3 Inc.) were attempting to "systematically recruit key engineers" from Trident in an attempt to undermine the company's product development and to gain an unfair advantage in market.
The civil lawsuit says Taiwan's Via and S3 Graphics may be planning to use its trade secrets to compete against Trident. The Santa Clara company did not release details about the damages it is seeking in the lawsuit.
An immediate response from Via or the joint venture was not available.
