MILPITAS, Calif. -- In a move to expand its storage I/O product offerings, LSI Logic Corp. here today announced that it will acquire the assets of American Megatrends Inc.'s RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) business.
Under the terms, LSI Logic will acquire AMI's MegaRAID software intellectual property and host-adapter board product family. These boards support Fibre Channel, SCSI and other storage I/O standards.
In addition, some 200 employees from AMI will join LSI Logic. This includes 120 hardware and software engineers in Norcross, Georgia, and Fremont, Calif.
"This strategic acquisition will strengthen LSI Logic's product offerings for our customers in the storage components space," said John D'Errico, LSI Logic's executive vice president for Storage and Internet Computing Components.
LSI Logic will use the purchase method of accounting for the acquisition of AMI's RAID business. The cash transaction is anticipated to close during LSI Logic's second quarter, which ends June 30. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
