CHELMSFORD, Mass.--Brooks Automation Inc. today announced it has acquired privately-held CCS Technology Inc., a supplier of 300-mm automation test and certification software, for cash and stock valued at $5.35 million.
Based in Williston, Vt., four-year-old CCS Technology provides software for testing of wafer fab equipment and systems to industry standards and chip-maker specifications. The company was originally founded as a division of ConneXsys Engineering Inc. in 1997, but sold to a group of private investors in April 1999.
"Our customers, both IC manufacturers and equipment suppliers alike, are scrambling for objective and independent testing to SEMI standards and customer specific manufacturing requirements," said Robert J. Therrien, chief executive officer of Brooks Automation in Chelmsford.
He said the 300-mm fab communications market has become a strategic segment for Brooks. "By extending Brooks' 300-mm offerings, we simplify the task for customers implementing automation for 300-mm, advanced 200-mm and e-diagnostics, and we can provide the test tools that validate their implementation to their customer," Therrien said.
