SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--A motor vehicle accident earlier this month has claimed the life of Walter George Lathi, vice president of market research at Chipworks Integrated Circuit Engineering (ICE). Lathi, 57, had over 30 years of experience in manufacturing, management, and market research.
Lathi died on June 9 from injuries in the accident, said ICE today. No details about the accident were released.
"The industry has lost a great mind, and we are all saddened by his loss," said Wally Raisanen, vice president process and technical consulting of ICE, which was acquired by Ottawa-based Chipworks last year (see Oct. 31 story).
ICE said Lahti's managerial expertise covered market research, fab planning, business planning, and materials management. He had worked at several semiconductor companies in Phoenix, including Digital Equipment Corp., Intel, GTE and STMicroelectronics before becoming a market research analyst, said ICE. Prior to joining ICE as vice president of market research, Lahti worked for several years at In-Stat Research.
Born in California, Lahti moved to Phoenix at an early age and graduated from at Arizona State University. He is survived by his father, brother, and a son.
