TAIPEI, Taiwan -- During the Computex trade show here today, ATI Technologies Inc. announced an outsourcing deal with Acer Inc., Taiwan's largest PC maker.
Under the terms, Taipei-based Acer will develop and make board-level products based on graphics chips from ATI of Ontario, Canada. Acer will sell the boards to systems integrators and distributors.
The deal with Acer follows an announcement made by ATI last week. In an effort to stem its recent tide of losses and regain market share taken by graphics rival Nvidia Corp., ATI said it will license its technology to high-volume board suppliers in Taiwan and re-focus its efforts on chip design (see June 1 story ).
