HSINCHU, Taiwan -- Winbond Electronics Corp. today announced the first hardware-monitoring ICs with speed functionality and compliance to the new Alert Standard Forum (ASF) specification for Internet protocol (IP) capable systems.
The W83791D provides speech output with an integrated programmable speech synthesizer and external flash memory, which stores voice data. The system-monitoring device can detect system voltages, measure temperatures, and alert users of "security events." The W83791D simultaneously monitors 10 voltage inputs, three fan speed inputs, three remote temperatures, and chassis intrusions or security events, said Winbond.
The device provides up to five Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) outputs for two modes of Winbond's Smart Fan control--"Thermal Cruise" and "Speed Cruise." The chip can also issue a variety of warnings including voice, beep tones, system management interrupt (SMI); over temperature (OVT); or IRQ signals for system protection, Winbond said.
The chip is now available for sampling and is priced at $2.20 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
