MILPITAS, Calif. -- LSI Logic Corp. here today announced the industry's fastest processor core, based on the technology from ARM Ltd.
The ARM946E-S processor core from LSI Logic runs at 200-MHz, making it ideal for system-on-a-chip, embedded IC and other applications.
Based on ARM's RISC processor technology, the core is part of the company's CoreWare family of ASIC cell libraries. The core includes 16-Kbytes of instruction, 16-KBytes of data caches, and configurable tightly coupled memories (TCMs).
"Reaching 200-MHz operation, under worst case conditions, with the ARM946E-S core is a significant milestone," said Rafi Kedem, senior director of processor cores at LSI Logic. "Customers now can efficiently utilize a commodity SDRAM system without leaving memory performance on the table."
