GENEVA--STMicroelectronics today introduced a small new chip package for CMOS single-gate logic devices, reducing the footprint requirement on printed-circuit boards by about half compared to existing packages.
The SOT323-5L/6L package takes up about 4.82 mm2 of space, making it ideal for reducing the size and weight of portable and handheld systems, according to the European chip maker.
The SOT323-5L/6L package is being offered in ST's VHC/VHCT series of low-noise CMOS single-gate devices, which are typically used as additional "glue logic" next to ASIC chips when boards are redesigned to reduce size and costs, said the company. The VHC/VHCT family includes 27 functions, which are fabricated in sub-micron CMOS technology to support a supply voltage range of 2-to-5.5 volts, said STMicroelectronics.
Typical performance of the 74V1G00 2-input NAND gate device is 3.7-ns propagation delay at 5.0 volts, +/-1 microamp input leakage current and a buffered at +/- 8 mA output capability for high-noise immunity and output stability, said the company. The logic series is available in 250- and 3,000-piece tape-and-reel packages and characterized to operate from -55° to +125° C.
