SUNNYVALE, Calif.--Advanced Micro Devices Inc. today introduced a 1-GHz mobile Duron microprocessor, which AMD claimed is now the highest performance PC processor for "mainstream notebook" computers.
The new 1-GHz mobile Duron is being used by Compaq Computer Corp. in its 700 series of notebook computers, AMD said. The processor employs AMD's PowerNow! technology to extend battery life in portable computers.
In quantities of 1,000 units, the 1-GHz mobile Duron is priced at $160 each.
Last month, AMD bumped up the top speed of its Duron desktop central processors to 1.2-GHz and set the price for those CPUs at $103 each in 1,000-piece quantities (see Nov. 15 story).
