Actually those patents are invalid in some countries. So clones can be developed in India for example since. SW and ma. methods are not patentable. I run an effort to develop a server class 64 bit , multi core processor. But we have used a PowerPC inspired isa but do not claim compatibility. Evaluated the 64 bit ARM isa but found it too limiting for our needs. Would be interesting to see how our processor is received since it will not be crippled in any way. We will also be providing open courseware type material to go along with the processor to allow faculty to use this processor for teaching cpu arch.
