PARIS -- Schlumberger's Semiconductor Equipment Group has opened three new SABER (Schlumberger Advanced Business Engineering Resources) Technology Centers in Europe, adding to the existing five in facilities in Asia and the United States.
The new centers in Montrouge and St. Etienne, France, and in Ferndown, England, extend the global network of SABER Technology Centers and the SABER Technology Institute, which Schlumberger established to provide testing services and business consulting for fabless semiconductor companies (see Oct. 21, 1998 story ).
The three European centers provide technical and business management services in the phases of semiconductor testing that are most relevant to their regions. For example, the Ferndown SABER Center has technical expertise in high call-throughput testing of complete telecommunications systems. The St. Etienne center offers in-depth expertise in testing semiconductors with embedded wireless technologies, supporting component suppliers in the burgeoning mobile, satellite and networking markets. The Montrouge center specializes in test-cell improvement and test software development.
SABER Centers will also serve as European facilities for the SABER Technology Institute, which offers professional growth seminars, workshops, custom courses and certification programs to technical and professional semiconductor engineering and operational personnel.
The sites house state-of the-art Schlumberger equipment in a working environment that enables SABER personnel and their chip customers to develop best practices and new solutions in semiconductor test.
"The European SABER centers strengthen our global reach to provide the complete range of innovative technical and business management solutions to the rapidly evolving semiconductor industry," commented Leo van Bree, vice president of Semiconductor Equipment Europe for Schlumberger. "The new centers are ready to meet the production and test challenges impactingEuropean semiconductor and telecommunications equipment manufacturers."
