SAN JOSE--Music Semiconductors today announced it has acquired Innovative Technology LLc, a supplier of network processors and switching technology. The purchase is expected to expand Music's chip business into network router and switching applications. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Music said Innovative's unique packet-switching technology will be combined with its address-processing and memory products to serve the $6.4 billion switching and router market. According to Music officials, Innovative's series of Allegro processors and technology provide a cost-effective gigabit switching architecture that supports 16 gigabit lines.
The Allegro network processors and Allegro switch fabric have been designed to offer an 8-to-128 port scalable programmable packet processing solution, supporting layers 2 to 7 networks, according to Music.
Music said Innovative's processors and technology are expected to contribute significantly to its revenues in 2001.
