LAS VEGAS -- Divio Inc. announced today at the Consumer Electronics Show that its single-chip camera solution now contains Microsoft Windows CE driver support to enable next-generation video applications.
Divio, of Sunnyvale, Calif., partnered with software developer 3Di Inc. Divio's NW80X single-chip solution delivers high-quality video over Universal Serial Bus connections to Windows CE, PC and Apple Macintosh systems. The 3Di driver bridges the high-resolution video from Divio NW80X-driven eyeball cameras directly to USB-enabled CE devices.
Windows CE is powering new solutions outside of traditional computing application, and Divio and 3Di are providing a new class of on-the-fly imaging solutions aimed at real restate, automotive, insurance, handheld, gaming law enforcement, and other industries that can benefit from truly portable, high-quality computer video.
Isaac van Kempen, vice president of marketing at Divio, noted thatsupport for USB connections will become the effective standard in
next-generation Windows CE devices.
"Sharp, Hewlett-Packard and several other firms already ship 'Palm PCs' with USB support," he commented. "As USB support becomes pervasive over the next six months, demand for inexpensive, NW80X-based cameras will increase as CE-solutions proliferate and as new applications for video emerge."
"Imaging isn't tied to traditional computing any longer," added Rajiv Desai, president and CEO at 3Di, based in Brea, Calif. "CE is driving next-generation solutions that will change the way people move and interact throughout their day. The Divio and 3Di solution adds value to CE by bridging high-resolution video through standard USB ports, creating new opportunities for video-enabled CE appliances."
