HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. -- Standard Microsystems Corp. here announced today it offering its new LAN91C96I, an ISA single-chip full-duplex Ethernet controller that supports 3.3-volt operation over the industrial temperature range.
This makes it ideal for embedded LAN applications, said Fred Weber, SMSC's director of strategic marketing for embedded products. The chip is a follow-on product based on SMSC's networking controller, the LAN91C96, which has been used in many portable PC Card and embedded applications.
"The LAN91C96 has already been successfully implemented in a wide variety of applications such as industrial controllers, building automation, port replicators, cable boxes, automated teller machines, hand-held POS terminals, smart cards, video games, timeclocks, mass storage systems, and Windows CE applications," Weber said. "The extended
temperature operation of the LAN91C96I will provide expanded opportunities
and additional flexibility for designers of embedded applications."
The LAN91C96I is in production now and is available in QFP and TQFP packages. Prototype quantities are available from stock, with production quantities available 12-16 weeks after receipt of order. The unit price for 10,000-piece quantities is less than $11.50.
