WILSONVILLE, Ore. -- Mentor Graphics Corp. here today announced the acquisition of seven-year-old Escalade Corp. to strengthen its position in hardware description language (HDL) graphical design tools for ASICs and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
Included in Escalade's portfolio is design reuse technology for system-on-chip ICs. The company's DesignBook product includes ModuleWare libraries for block-based SoC designs. Mentor said it will continue to support the DesignBook and offer customers a migration path to its own next-generation graphical design software.
Mentor claimed the acquisition solidified its No. 1 position in the HDL graphical design market. In particular, Mentor picks up a significant customer base in Japan with the purchase of Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Escalade, said Anne (Wagner) Sanquini, vice president and general manager of Mentor's HDL design division.
