PHOENIX -- On Semiconductor here is still deciding on the location of a planned analog IC wafer fab, which will be located in either the Czech Republic or Slovakia. "A decision on the location and the amount of investment is still being made," said a spokeswoman for the company, which was spun out of Motorola Inc. last year.
The Reuters news service today reported that the Slovak finance ministry said On Semiconductor was expecting to invest about $80 million in the facility. The report also said about 400 employees would work at the fab initially, and the workforce would eventually grow to 1,000. Annual exports from the plant could reach $60 million, according to a statement attributed to an On Semiconductor manager.
On Semiconductor currently operates a small fab in Piestany, Slovakia. It also has a manufacturing joint venture in Roznov with the Czech Republic, said the company spokeswoman in Phoenix.
