STOCKHOLM-- Sweden's L.M. Ericsson today announced its microelectronics subsidiary has licensed RISC processor technology from ARM Ltd. of Cambridge, England. Ericsson Microelectronics AB has licensed the ARM7DMI core for use in a range of communications products.
"Bluetooth and fast Internet access to the home are key applications for Ericsson, and ARM's proven processor technology will provide an efficient and scalable platform for our high-performance, low-power system-on-chip solutions targeting these markets," said Johan Tingsborg, vice president and general manager for Datacom ICs at Ericsson Microelectronics.
The Swedish company hopes to reduce the time it takes to introduce next-generation ICs for consumer communications products by reusing the ARM processor core across Ericsson, said Tingsborg.
