MILPITAS, Calif. -- PCTEL Inc. here today dismissed Smart Link Ltd.'s counter suit in regards to a bitter legal dispute over software-modem patents.
Earlier this month, PCTEL filed a suit against Smart Link, claiming Smart Link infringed upon its software-modem patents. Smart Link, based in Netanya, Israel, denied the allegations and filed a counter claim against PCTEL earlier this week (see Aug. 28 story).
PCTEL dismissed those claims, however. "PCTEL has achieved a leadership position in the soft modem industry through its valuable intellectual properties related to host signal processing technology," said Peter Chen, chief executive officer of PCTEL.
"This lawsuit is an attempt by Smart Link to counter PCTEL's patent infringement lawsuit filed on August 10. Although we regret that legal actions of any type need to be taken, we will do whatever is necessary to rigorously protect our rights and our properties," Chen said.
