SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- Motorola Inc. here today announced that it has chosen Scotland as the location for a major semiconductor research and development center.
The $30 million center, to be located in the Alba Campus in Livingston, will focus on embedded software and systems-on-a-chip design technology. The site will create up to 550 new jobs by 2005.
Initially the project will be located in temporary premises while a new facility is constructed. The new facility will open in early-2002.
"We are delighted to be able to increase our links with Scotland," said Michael Kay, systems design operations manager for Motorola. "This was a key factor in our decision to bring this project to Scotland to gain access to high quality graduates and experienced engineers."
