FREMONT, Calif. -- Three-year-old Sapphire Software Inc. here has decided to spin off its automation business for chip manufacturing and supply-chain management.
The new company--called Sapphire Automation Inc.--will focus on consulting services and the development of next-generation control software for semiconductor production facilities, including 300-mm wafer fabs, said Sapphire Software, which offers a variety of products for automating corporate activities. These packages include enterprise resource planning (ERP) and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
In the chip arena, Sapphire Software has been offering Visual Recipe Editor and Dream Sever, which are used to edit chip-processing recipes.
As a spin-off company, Sapphire Automation will provide software-consulting services to semiconductor, flat-panel, and disk drive manufacturing industry, according to the Fremont company. Sapphire Automation will also offer contract-engineering services for on-site development of software applications.
Sapphire Automation has also undertaken an initiative for fabless semiconductor suppliers, called "Cleanroom to Boardroom," which is intended to allow companies to integrate inventory management systems with production at silicon foundries. The software initiative aims to provide fabless chip companies with access to wafer- and device-level information for real-time decisions on sales and forecasting, as well as planning, according to the company.
