PALM SPRINGS, Calif.--At the Intel Developer Forum here today, Semtech Corp. will announce a new two-chip set solution for power control in mobile systems based on microprocessors from Intel Corp. The solution couples Semtech's new SC1406 hysteretic mode controller with the company's SC1405 dual-MOSFET driver.
Semtech said the SC1406 integrates several functions into one chip, including two linear regulator controllers with soft start, a 5-bit VID DAC used as a programmable precision voltage reference, an ultra-fast core voltage comparator with soft start, power good generator, and under-voltage lockout circuit. The company said the space-saving SC1405/1406 combination provides the central processor with a voltage range of 0.9 to 1.675 V, with 25-millivolt resolution.
The SC1405 costs $1.30 each in quantities of 10,000. Samples of the new SC1406 controller are available now, with volume shipments slated to begin in November. It will be priced at $2.50 each in 10,000-piece quantities.
