SAN JOSE--Cypress Semiconductor Corp. here and Canadian startup Right Track CAD Corp. today announced they would jointly develop new architectures and software for next-generation programmable logic.
The R&D partnership is expected to produce new architectures for Cypress PLDs within two years and help accelerate the development of next-generations of products at lower cost.
"Right Track's unique blend of architecture, software and circuit design expertise complements Cypress's PLD design and manufacturing capabilities," said Christopher Norris, vice president of the Programmable Logic Division at Cypress in San Jose. "In particular, Right Track's architecture-independent software tools will allow us to explore and analyze the impact of a wide range of architectures. The result will be an optimized architecture for our next-generation PLDs."
Year-old Right Track of Toronto is focused on software tools and new architectures for complex PLDs and field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The privately-held company has developed the expertise to concurrently develop PLD architectures and software, said Jonathan Rose, president and chief executive officer of Right Track.
"This capability is crucial when designing for deep sub-micron technologies where architectures have to be optimized across process technology, electrical (i.e. transistor level) design and CAD software," Rose said.
