SUNNYVALE, Calif.--Ion Implant Services Inc. here today said it is collaborating with Core Systems Inc. in San Jose to expand implantation services for semiconductor manufacturers and research organizations. Under the new alliance, Ion Implant Services is focused on production volumes while Core Systems is providing R&D services for chip makers universities and research labs.
"By working with Core Systems, we share experience working with the newest implant technology so we can help customers move quickly and confidently from R&D-type implant technology to small-lot and higher volume production as new technology is implemented into advanced chip designs," said Wesley Weisenberger, chief executive officer at Ion Implant Services.
Ion Implant Services is also providing Core Systems metrology technology from its sister company, Process Diagnostics Inc.
For R&D work, customers can choose from up to 60 implant species at Core Systems. The San Jose company also has six unique implant systems with the capability of handling 2 to 8-inch wafer substrates. As customers move to higher volumes, Ion Implant Services' 21 implant systems are available. The two companies said they will share sales and marketing activities, technology and process data, to broaden the spectrum of services and depth of resources available to the customer base.
"There has often been a disconnect between our low-volume business with R&D organizations and these customers' frequent need to transition seamlessly to greater volumes of wafers that are needed in the product and process development cycle," noted Donald Lindsey, CEO of Core Systems. "Having IIS as a close collaborator should make it easy for customers to outsource more of their implant development cycle to experts whose business is focused entirely on the ion implant process."
