PHOENIX--On Semiconductor here today unveiled a series of zener and small signal diodes in a SOD-323 package that has a footprint of just 50 by 80 mils. The spinoff company from Motorola Inc. said the small package format will enable equipment designers to reduce the size of their products and increase portability.
"This smaller package is ideally suited for portable products such as cellular phones, PDAs, pagers, cordless phones and TV/TR tuners where high-density board design is a necessity," said Colette Hunt, vice president and general manager for discrete products at On Semiconductor.
The zener diodes provide temperature stable references for voltage regulation, for monitoring over and under voltage conditions, and for monitoring logic level rails and battery levels. These diodes cover a voltage range from 2.5 volts to 75 volts and provide protection for vital circuitry as well as assist in saving data when power is lost, said On Semiconductor.
The company is also offering other small signal devices in the SOD-323 package, including Schottky, switching and tuning diodes.
Samples and production quantities of the SOD-323 packaged devices are available. Suggested pricing for the zener diodes is set at $0.04 for quantities of 3,000. Pricing for the small signal devices averages at $0.12 in the same quantities.
