TOKYO -- Kobe Steel Ltd. will distribute and support the silicon and software products for Zayante Inc. under an agreement announced here today.
Zayante, of Scotts Valley, Calif., develops link cores and physical-layer (PHY) cores for the 1394 interface, an IEEE standard to link integrating computing, consumer electronics an networking, as well as software tools and simulation programs.
Under the terms of the agreement, Kobe Steel (also known as Kobelco) will not only promote Zayante's 1394 products in Japan but will provide customization services to port the Zayante software to different CPUs and board and system designs, to implement additional 1394 link drivers, and to develop application software for customer-specific requirements.
"We are delighted to partner with Kobelco," said Prashant Kanhere, Zayante's president. "This partnership underlines our commitment to the Japanese market."
Zayante has been working directly with many customers in Japan and has recently incorporated Zayante Japan as a fully owned subsidiary. "This market represents a very large and important customer base for us and Kobelco is an ideal partner, as it has the skills and resources necessary to deliver Zayante's state-of-the-art 1394 software products," Kanhere added,
"The 1394 interface is both the interface of choice for digital AV consumer electronics and is being increasingly adopted in PCs," said Hiroki Ujie, general manager, Information Systems Department at Kobelco's Electronics and Information Company.
Privately-held Zayante sees expanding opportunities for software and services in consumer products such as digital VCRs, digital TVs, set-top boxes, mini-disk players as well as PC peripherals such as printers and scanners.
