CAMBRIDGE, England -- RISC processor licensor ARM Holdings plc said Tuesday (July 22, 2003) it has purchased Adelante Technologies Belgium, a part of Adelante Technologies Holding B.V.
The main technology asset that ARM is acquiring is the A/RT system-level design tool, which comprises a methodology for optimizing block layout to accelerate high data throughput processing applications. A purchase price was not disclosed.
Adelante Technologies Belgium is a 25-person company based in Leuven, Belgium, and appears to have been created to further the opportunity of a sale.
Adelante Technologies Belgium took control of the A/RT system-level design tool brought to market by a Frontier Design B.V., a predecessor of Adelante's three years ago (see June 5, 2000, story), according to ARM.
It was reported back in March that Philips Semiconductors was preparing to take-over the cores business of Adelante (see March 11 story) and Philips, ARM and Adelante had worked together creating system-on-chip 'platforms' in 2002.
What has happened to the cores part of Adelante's business was not discussed by ARM.
"This acquisition, combined with ARM's industry-leading architectural capability, will enable us to bring products to market that enable innovation and shorten time-to-market," said Tudor Brown, chief operating officer of ARM, in a statement.
"We believe that ARM is the right company to move our technology forward," said Herman Beke, vice president, Adelante Technologies Belgium.
