Broadcom Corp. is reportedly expected to name Charles Giancarlo, a senior vice president at Cisco Systems Inc., as its new CEO, according to the San Jose Mercury News, which cited a report from U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray. Broadcom officials declined to comment on the report.
Giancarlo, who has been with Cisco since 1994, runs the network switching business for the equipment giant and heads up the company's recently-acquired Linksys unit.
Broadcom has been looking for a CEO since the resignation of Henry T. Nicholas III in January, amid losses and layoffs at the communications-chip maker. At that time, Alan E. "Lanny" Ross, a board who had been serving as COO since last November, assumed the responsibilities of president and CEO while the Irvine-based company conducted a search for a permanent CEO (see January 23 story).
