SAN JOSE, Calif. Alliance, Mindspeed and Silicon Laboratories separately posted mixed results in the quarter.
Silicon Laboratories Inc. (Austin, Texas) said revenues totaled $95.5 million in the fourth quarter, down from $109.6 million in the like period a year ago.
GAAP net income for the fourth quarter was $13 million, or $0.24 a share, compared to $21 million, or $0.39 a share, a year ago. The company anticipates revenue of $101-to-$105 million in the first quarter of 2005.
Hit hard by the communications-chip downturn, Mindspeed Technologies Inc. (Newport Beach, Calif.) announced revenues of $26.3 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2005, which ended Dec. 31, 2004, achieving its expectations of approximately flat sequential quarterly revenue compared to the $26.6 million reported in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2004.
Presented on a GAAP basis, the net loss for the first quarter of fiscal 2005 was $30.5 million, or $0.30 per share, compared to $25.5 million, or $0.25 per share in the prior quarter.
Mindspeed expects fiscal 2005 second quarter revenues to be approximately flat to up 5 percent sequentially.
Alliance Semiconductor (Santa Clara, Calif.) reported a net loss for its third fiscal 2005 quarter ended Dec. 25 of $9.9 million, or 28 cents per share on sales of $5.3 million, compared to a loss of $6.6 million, or 19 cents per share on sales of $7.1 million in the year-ago fiscal quarter.
The company attributed the results to lower-than-expected sales in its analog and mixed-signal business unit. Still, revenue from Alliance's non-memory business units represented 55 percent of total revenue, compared to 52 percent in the previous quarter.
