Spirent Communications Introduces Testing Products To Enable Portable Capacity Assessment
Spirent Communications, a wholly owned business group of Spirent plc announces the availability of the Avalanche 220 and Reflector 220, portable versions of its market-leading Avalanche 2200 and Reflector 2200 systems.
Spirent's Avalanche and Reflector product lines are used by the world's largest network equipment manufacturers, service providers and Web site managers to simulate today's complex network conditions (as opposed to using unrealistic clean traffic simulations) to ensure that the network, as well as its products and services, will excel in a real-world network environment.
"We chose Spirent's 220 series because of its ability to simulate realistic customer loads and its portability for field work," said Mike Swarm, senior consulting systems engineer, Netscreen Technologies, a developer of integrated network security solutions for enterprises and carriers. "As a leading provider of firewall, VPN and intrusion detection and prevention products, we often need to perform application level testing at Layer 7 at customer sites, so we have found the portable products to be extremely useful."
At 3.5 pounds each, the Avalanche 220 and Reflector 220 are designed for use by system engineers, field application engineers, post-sales support and technical marketing personnel for demonstrating networking devices at customer sites and tradeshows, and troubleshooting customer issues in the field. The products are also ideal for developers and Quality Assurance teams that need a small form-factor desktop testing tool for Layer 4-7 applications.
"These two portable products were developed in response to our customers requests for units that their sales and marketing teams could take into the field," said Roy Chua, director of product marketing for Spirent Communications. "The 220 series represents a natural extension to our Avalanche product line, and provides customers with a conveniently-packaged solution that has enough power to simulate even the largest corporate network environments. Our solution streamlines the pre-sales process and accelerates post-sales troubleshooting."
The Avalanche 220 simulates a large number of users and includes the following advanced Layer 4-7 features:
* Network realism - enabling high-performance control and reporting, real-world error injection including dropped packets, multiple link speeds, and accurate support for all major protocols.
* User realism - providing multiple simultaneous user scenarios, HTML forms fill-in, configurable browser type, cookies and dynamic session identifier support.
* High-Performance - supporting more than 6,000 connections per second, 60,000 open TCP connections from a custom TCP/IP stack, 600 new SSL connections per second, and in excess of 140 Mbps of traffic.
* Ease-of-use - providing customizable, presentation-ready reports, and detailed statistics on response times, system capacity, connection and application errors.
A complementary product to Avalanche 220, the Reflector 220 is a highly portable, flexible, and cost-effective way to simulate complex multi-protocol, multi-tier dynamic Web sites. Reflector 220 combined with the Avalanche 220, provides an effective field solution for demonstrating and troubleshooting content-aware devices and infrastructure. The Avalanche 220 and Reflector 220 are available now.
About Avalanche and Reflector
Built for network equipment manufacturers, service providers and Web site managers that demand absolute realism and control under all conditions, Avalanche challenges any computing infrastructure's ability to stand up to the load and complexity of the real world. Reflector replaces multiple racks of servers, realistically simulating the behavior of the world's largest Web, application and data server environments. Used in tandem, Avalanche and Reflector simulate the world's largest customer environments, and are being used by many leading corporations to ensure that their products and services excel in real world conditions. Avalanche and Reflector can generate in excess of 30,000 HTTP requests per second, and support HTTP/1.0, HTTP/1.1, HTTPS, RTSP/RTP (Apple QuickTime), RealSystem streaming, Microsoft Windows Media 8 and 9 Series, SMTP, POP3 and FTP. Real-world conditions are accurately replicated by simulating error conditions, realistic user behavior, and maintaining over one million open connections from distinct IP addresses. Current customers include AT&T, BEA, Cable & Wireless, Cisco Systems, CNET, Deutsche Bank, eBay, Extreme Networks, F5 Networks, Forbes.com, Foundry Networks, MSNBC, Network Appliance, Nortel Networks, NTT DATA, SBC Communications, and WatchGuard.
