Personal Measurement Device Family of USB-Based Analog and Digital I/O Interfaces
Middleboro, Mass.---Measurement Computing Corporation announces the first two members of its exciting new Personal Measurement Device (PMD) product line. The new USB-based PMD-1208LS and PMD-1024LS set a new standard for low-cost, PC-based analog and digital I/O. The PMD family is fully compatible with USB 1.1 as well as USB 2.0, and is supported by the Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP operating systems.
Providing 8 single-ended or 4 differential analog inputs with 12-bit resolution, the PMD-1208LS offers sample rates up to 1.2 kilosamples/sec, and provides 8 software selectable input ranges. In addition to the analog inputs, the unit provides 2 channels of 10-bit analog output, one 32-bit counter and 16 bits of digital I/O. Single piece pricing is set at $109 each, including the USB cable. Pricing for quantities 25 or greater is $79.
The PMD-1024LS adds a 24-bit digital I/O interface to any USB port. Using the industry standard 82C55, the 24 bits are divided into two 8-bit ports and two 4-bit ports, each of which may be independently programmed as input or output. PMD-1024LS single piece pricing is set at $99 each including the USB cable. Pricing for quantities 25 or greater is $75.
At 3.25 inches wide by 3.125 inches long by 1 inch high, the PMDs are large enough to make connecting field wiring easy, yet small enough to fit on even the most crowded bench. Magnetic and Velcro mounting options along with a 0.225 inch attachment hole make mounting easy even in unconventional installations. The attachment hole can also be used by a cable lock or padlock in applications where unit security must be protected.
PMD Software is provided in a variety of forms, one of which will be ideal for any application. All PMDs include InstaCAL, which is Measurement Computing's powerful installation and test application package. The units also include a number of "mini-applications" that provide all the functionality many simple applications may need. OEMs and experienced programmers can take advantage of a comprehensive set of C++ routines (including source) that provide access to all of the units' functions.
All PMDs are also compatible with Measurement Computing's powerful Universal Library. The Universal Library is a powerful language interface allowing users to write programs in all of the popular programming languages using easy to understand, high level command syntax. The PMD family is also supported by most popular data acquisition applications packages including SoftWIRE and LabVIEW.
