Airoha Technology Corp., a wireless communication design company that develops radio frequency (RF) and mixed signal solutions, today announced the world's most integrated single chip transceiver with an embedded power amplifier (PA) for wireless local area network (WLAN) RF applications.
Utilizing Jazz's specialty silicon germanium (SiGe) BiCMOS technology, the Airlink AL2210 single chip transceiver is capable of meeting the most demanding requirements of cellular customers on performance and power consumption for 802.11b applications A key requirement for a true single chip WLAN transceiver is to embed a PA meeting full 802.11 power specs. Using the optimized SiGe process and design platform from Jazz Semiconductor, Airoha designers overcame the challenges of heat dissipation and interference that are common in an integrated PA with output power of more than 20dBm at 11Mbps data rate. This single chip transceiver is highly integrated with on-chip components such as voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), low noise amplifier (LNA), oscillator and balun. With the lowest off-chip component count, the Airlink AL2210 has the potential to achieve the lowest bill of materials (BOM) cost and the smallest printed circuit board (PCB) area in the world.

The Airlink AL2210 is initially targeted for 802.11b applications and will be available to customers by the end of August 2003 and distributed to Taiwan original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and original design manufacturers (ODM) which supply over 85 percent of the world's wireless solutions market. The 802.11g version will be available to customers by the end of 2003 whereas the 802.11a/b/g comb version is expected to debut in the second quarter of 2004.
