Intel Corporation has introduced a Xeon processor for dual processor (DP) servers and workstations. The company claims the processor has the highest performance and fastest clock speed of any product in the series, as well as drop-in compatibility for investment protection.
The new Xeon processor runs at 3.20 GHz and features a 1 MB cache and a 533 MHz system bus. It is designed for use in general-purpose servers for Web hosting, data caching, search engines, security, streaming media and high performance computing, and in workstations for digital content creation, mechanical and electrical design, financial analysis, and 3D modeling. System manufacturers are expected to ship systems based on this new Intel Xeon processor immediately.
The processor is drop-in compatible with existing systems designed with the Intel E7501 (for servers) or E7505 (for workstations) chipsets, IntelPRO Gigabit Ethernet Network Connections and Server RAID Controllers.
Intel's Xeon processor at 3.20 GHz is now available worldwide for the list price of $851 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
