Board maker Arista Corp. has a new single-board computer (SBC) that supports both Intel's Xeon microprocessor clocking at up to 3.06-GHz, and Intel's low voltage (LV) Xeon up to 2.4-GHz. The company claims this board is the industry's first Socket 604 Dual Intel product. Using Intel's E7501 chipset with so-called Hyper-Threading Technology, Arista's Model SBC-F9220V2GL board can be plugged into any PICMG backplane.
Arista says its product was created as a building block for mission-critical communication infrastructure applications as applied computing moves towards the 64 bit/66-MHz PCI bus. Driver support includes Windows 95/98/2000, Windows NT, and Windows CE. The SBC also includes so-called super I/O, two serial I/O ports, four Universal Serial Bus ports, an ATI Rage XL VGA chip with 8 Mbytes frame buffer, a watchdog timer, and an on-chip realtime clock with battery backup. The product is priced at less than $1000 a pop.
