Congratulations! Unless youre reading this issue by the fitful light of a kerosene lamp, surrounded by ten-gallon jugs of bottled water, youve survived Y2K with your life savings intact. Now, assuming your computer and the Internet have survived as well, and because youve been so brave, here is my millennium gift to you: Bookmarks.
Even though the web is just beginning to be more than a giant catalogue, finding what you need can be tedious. So, when I find a good page, I bookmark it,fast. (For those of you using AOL or MS Explorer, I believe the synonym is Favorites). I have over 100 bookmarks, carefully categorized under such clandestine folders as Fax: Bureaus: US: IP: Free or Fax: Redialers: HateHateHate, etc.
I must admit, with fourteen current eBay bookmarks, Im an auction addict. Also, for vanitys sake, so I can track its sales rank (best ever: 10,862), I have my books page on Amazon bookmarked. But none of that is going to help you. What will
help are the following URLs: Roadmaps to some of the most important and useful fax-related sites on the web. Beware: These are NOT fun sites! Many are terribly boring. Bookmark them anyway, because youll probably need them someday.
Disclaimer: Obviously, this is not meant to be a complete list of non-vendor, fax-centric URLs. Also, there are several well-known sites that I have purposely left off of this list. Like many other places, the Internet is a buyers beware place. Therefore,
sites that I believe to be of questionable nature and origin; sites that propose to be fax industry FAQs, but that in reality are nothing more than adver-tiser/vendor-funded endeavors; or sites promoting organizations that do little more than collect dues have been omitted. By the way, our fax industry e-newsletter can be found at
The Kauffman Group
With that, if you know of a URL worthy of a Kauffman Group bookmark... please tell me. But, so that Im not
bombarded with product URLs, if you send me to a corporate site, I promise to review only your Y2K-failed products, next month.
