SBE Inc. is applying its single board computing expertise to the needs of telecom with the two new HW400c/2 HighWire communications controller blade platforms.
HW400c/2 is an intelligent PICMG 2.16 CompactPCI I/O processor board featuring a 1 GHz PowerPC processor, up to 1GB SDRAM, two PCI Telecom Mezzanine Card (PTMC) sites, with Gigabit Ethernet and H.110, designed for use in telecom infrastructure applications such as media gateways, softswitches and remote node controllers (RNCs).
The two expansion sites are designed to fully support PTMC “Configuration 2” (PT2MC) and “Configuration 5” (PT5MC) modules in addition to standard PMC boards.
PT2MC modules have access to the on-board local CT Bus and timeslot interchange fabric allowing flexible routing of TDM timeslots both between the PTMC sites and the H.110 backplane CT Bus.
In addition to the PT2MC features, PT5MC modules extend TDM (H.110) bandwidth and add Gigabit Ethernet links to enable connectivity between on-board PTMC sites and the 2.16 platform resources. The HW400c/2 automatically detects each module type to provide full mix and match capability for using PT2MC, PT5MC or PMC modules in either site.
The HW400c/2 is based on the 1 GHz Freescale MPC7447A PowerPC processor and Marvell Discovery III system controller to provide addressing a wide range of communications applications. Up to 1 GB of ECC DDR memory is supported in addition to on-board Disk-on-Chip flash file system storage.
The HW400c/2 fully implements an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) that interfaces to the System Management Bus (SMB) defined by PICMG 2.9. The IPMI controller provides standards-based monitoring and control of board functions including critical temperatures, voltages, Ethernet IP addresses and other features.
The HW400c/2 is compliant with the PICMG 2.16 CompactPCI Packet Switched Backplane (cPSB) specification and includes dual 10/100/1000 Ethernet interfaces to the backplane to support both the single node and high-availability dual node configurations without affecting on-board performance or throughput. The board is also compliant with the PICMG 2.1 R2.0 Full Hot Swap specification for system maintenance and provisioning.
Full Linux support is provided with the HW400c/2 as well as SBE's complete portfolio of PMC/PTMC products.
